Kickoff Tomorrow! and other First Week things Hello FHS Choir Family,
What a great first few days of school it has been! Here are some reminders and updates.
Choir Kickoff
Our annual Choir Kickoff Potluck is a popular tradition that takes place on the first Thursday of the school year. The FHS Choir Kickoff Potluck will be held August 15, 2024 at 6pm in the FHS Cafeteria. Please RSVP for the Kickoff here. Whether you plan to bring a dish or not, we hope you will attend with your family!
Choir Handbook
Yesterday your student was sent home with a (rather large) document called the FHS Choir Handbook. This contains all our policies about Fundraising, Concert Dress and Grooming, Rehearsal Behavior Expectations, etc. You can access a digital copy of the Handbook here. It is also available on Canvas and at foothillchoirs.com. Please review the handbook with your student and sign the first page. Students and parents both need to sign and return this page! It is our first graded assignment of the year and will be due on Monday, August 19.
Black Binder
Throughout the year, students will be provided with copies of sheet music for the songs we are learning. Each student will need to acquire a black 1 inch binder to store their sheet music in. Students will be able to store their binder in the classroom. Please make sure that this binder is 1 inch or ½ inch only. A larger binder will not fit in the storage slots in the classroom. You can pick this up at any grocery or office supply store, and honestly most thrift stores have them too. If you are unable to acquire a black binder, please talk to me. I can definitely help out.
Class Fees
As disclosed in the Course Catalog and Choir Handbook, there are some mandatory class fees for all choir members.
This fee information can be found on page 10 of the Choir Handbook. I have also included it here for your reference:
Uniforms and Fees Information
Unfortunately, CCSD does not pay for many choir necessities like an accompanist, uniforms, etc. We are instead required to raise the money for these items ourselves, and for that reason, all students are subject to certain fees as a part of their enrollment in choir.
The following fees will be applied to each student.
Choir membership fee: $45
T Shirt Fees: $10
Concert Attire Fees: See Table

Pay fees on August 23
There is no online web store this year, which means that all 2,400 Foothill students are trying to get in to see our one banker to pay their class fees. It’s a LOT! To make this feasible, the Banker has set aside a day for each class to visit her (during class time) and pay their fees. Choir will be visiting the Banker on Friday August 23. If you can, please send your student with cash or check to pay all fees that day. Please do not go to the Banker to pay Choir Fees before that day. If you need more time or are planning on fundraising, please let me know. All fees will be due no later than September 27 (unless we have made other, individual arrangements).
Remind
I often use the Remind app to send quick messages to students and parents. Parents, if you would like to join the Remind, please download the Remind app or text a code to the phone number 81010. The code is different for each class. Here are the codes:
3rd period Chamber Singers: @572choir1
4th period Women’s Chorus: @572choir2
2nd Period Concert Choir: @572choir3
Please make sure your “role” is that of Parent if you are a parent and Student if you are a student.
Parent Volunteers
This choir program cannot function at its best without the support of parent volunteers. If you want your child to have the opportunity to participate in things like the Homecoming Parade, Senior Night, the Awards Banquet, etc, I need parents to make those things happen because I don’t have the bandwidth to do it all. If you would like to help your kid have the best possible experience in Choir this year, please fill out this Parent Volunteer Interest Form.
Disneyland Trip Nov 12-13
A reminder that there is a special discount for anyone who makes their Disneyland deposit by August 16! That’s the day after tomorrow! The Deposit is only $100 until Aug 16; after that it is $150. Cash or check only will be accepted in class tomorrow and Friday. The total cost of the trip is $500 but that will be discounted to $450 if you make your deposit by Friday.
After Friday, you can still sign up for the trip! The cost will be $500 in total with a $150 deposit. This applies to both students and chaperones.
Thanks,
Mrs. Noorda
